Whistler - Cache Creek: Highway 99 - The Duffey Lake Road

This section is available in English and Deutsch.

Driving time: approximately 3 hours plus stops.

Highway 99 north from the alpine resort community of Whistler through to the rugged cowboy and ranch country of Cache Creek is also known as the Duffey Lake Road.  You will see complete changes in the terrain and vegetation on this 3 hour drive.  This is the alternative route to access the interior of British Columbia without driving the busy Highway #1 through the Fraser Valley.

The Duffey Lake Road offers a challenging but rewarding drive through twisty canyons. If you are pulling a trailer or driving a large motorhome for the very first time you might want to make sure you feel comfortable with the vehicle before taking this route. Highway 99 also provides access to the side route to Gold Bridge and some well known ranch properties.

If your itinerary plans to take you from Vancouver to the Candian Rockies and then back in a loop tour, then this route would be a great alternative if you plan to use the Coquihalla or original Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon in one of the directions.
